Almost Time for the 2017 MELEd Conference: A Few Reminders

By Erin Cary, MinneTESOL 2nd Vice President & 2017 MELEd Conference Co-Chair

The 4th Annual Minnesota English Learner Education (MELEd) Conference will be held October 26-28, 2017, at the The Doubletree by Hilton in Bloomington, MN.

Registration is open! Early bird prices expire on Friday, October 13 (that’s this week!) so make sure to register soon.

Our MELED 2017 conference app will open next week so you can check out the concurrent session descriptions and select your schedule for the conference! Watch our Facebook page for the link and instructions on downloading the Guidebook app for MELED 2017.

Keynote Speakers

Don’t miss this year’s keynote speakers!

Tatyana Kleyn, associate professor and director of the Bilingual Education and TESOL programs at the City College of New York, will deliver a keynote about her work with translanguaging on Friday, October 27.

Jaylani Hussein, Executive Director of the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN), will deliver our Saturday keynote about his refugee experience moving from Somalia to Minnesota with his family in 1993, his work supporting Muslim American legal and civil rights across the country and how educators can get involved.

We are greatly anticipating these exciting keynotes!

Conference Logistics

A reminder to attendees to bring a laptop or device to the conference—many presenters this year requested that participants bring their device to get the full experience of their session.

Also, if you’re interested in being involved in MinneTESOL’s “Educate. Advocate. Elevate.” mission, consider nominating yourself to run for the MinneTESOL Executive Board! Or suggest a colleague! Check out the available positions and submit nominations using this form.

We look forward to supporting presenters, conference-goers and everyone involved in MELEd 2017!
