On June 3, the Technology/Distance Learning (DL) Supplemental Services grant team participated in an in-depth three-hour introduction webinar to Plato Learning Environment Courseware (PLE) by Edmentum. The webinar included: an overview of the content; creating admin, instructor, and student accounts; course creation and customization; an intro to the built-in Learning Management System (LMS); and an intro to reporting and tracking learner progress and usage. PLE is a dynamic, well-designed program with a wide variety of content, including writing, math, GED prep, Accuplacer Prep.
We are very excited about the possibilities for use in a hybrid/blended learning contexts, implications for meeting Adult Diploma requirements, and its overall relevance for ABE learners and teachers. Many, but not all, of the lessons are mobile-friendly. We want you to know that PLE is an excellent upgrade replacement for Skills Tutor, and although it is more complex, its customizability, broader content choices, and ability for teachers to easily follow their learners will make your investment in training well worth it, both for you and your learners. Plato/Edmentum training staff are currently planning a two-part (90 minutes each; 3 hours total) training, to be held twice, during ABE Summer Institute in August.
Before we hand out PLE Program Administrator accounts, we will be requiring participation in the upcoming trainings. Therefore, we highly recommend you send any current DL staff and those interested in hybrid/blended learning to SI to participate in those trainings. Additionally, from September to December, we will be scheduling with Plato/Edmentum staff to provide monthly overview and in-depth orientation/training webinars for those who were unable to attend Summer Institute, or who would simply like to participate again. CEUs will be provided for participation in these webinars. We will also be updating the MN ABE DL website with a PLE FAQ section populated by questions from the field. Additionally, implementation and best practice questions will be handled by the Technology/Distance Learning Supplemental Services grant team via a new Zendesk online ticketing system. Look for further updates in the coming weeks in MN ABE Connect.
