Registration for Awards Ceremony and Journeys Readings 2018 Now Open! - By Liam Shramko, Distance Learning & Database Specialist

Our Awards Ceremony and Journeys Readings are annually celebrated with the adult literacy community in Minnesota. The evening begins with an awards ceremony to recognize adult literacy students, volunteers and community partners for their outstanding achievements. After the awards, learners will share their original stories and poems, many of which are featured in our annual publication Journeys: An Anthology of Adult Student Writing, which can be pre-ordered now.

The event will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the Minnesota History Center. The History Center is free for all on Tuesdays from 3:00 p.m. to close, so come early and tour the exhibits!

6:00 pm | Awards Ceremony: Learners, volunteers and community partners from across Minnesota will be honored for their exceptional work in literacy.

7:00 pm | Journeys Readings: Learners enrolled in adult literacy programs throughout the state will read their stories and poems from Journeys. There will be four separate reading rooms, featuring a total of 80 readers. To ensure that as many readers as possible have the opportunity to share, please limit readings to three minutes per person.

8:00 pm | Reception: Light refreshments will be served.

Registering Readers for the Event

As in years past, authors will have a chance to read their written piece at the event. Before registering, here’s what you should know Journeys Readings registration:

  • There are a limited number of reader registrations available. Registration is on a first come, first served basis.
  • Teachers, coordinators and literacy program staff who plan to bring students to read and/or attend the event are encouraged to sign up as a group. We ask that you keep your readers to 10 maximum and your group to 20 people maximum per learning center, including family and friends. This will allow more programs to participate.
  • Once the limit of readers and guests is reached, registrations will be added to a waiting list.

Once again, thank you for your continued excellence in promoting literacy. If you have any questions, please reach out to the following staff:
