She coordinates professional development activities around effective math and numeracy instruction to adults\, including coordination of the annual Math Institute and leading the statewide Be/CALM Initiative; content standards implementation; a statewide mentorship experience for new staff members; and supporting program administrators. \nFun fact: Lindsey is currently pursuing a Masters of Management and Leadership (MML) at Hamline University.

SUMMARY:Math Institute 2026
DESCRIPTION:Registration Deadline: FRI. 10/9/26 \nJoin us for a day of purposeful PD grounded in effective math instructional practices.  \nGuest Speaker: Heidi Schuler from TERC\, and our CALM facilitator.\n\nHeidi Schuler has worked in adult education since 2006\, spending much of that time expanding her understanding of tools and instructional strategies that make math meaningful\, accessible\, and fun for adult learners. Her participation in numerous professional development offerings and pilot studies and her active involvement on the Board of Directors of the Adult Numeracy Network (ANN) allowed her to learn from some of the best and brightest minds in adult ed math and numeracy. Through those experiences\, she became a LINCS national trainer for math and numeracy and joined the SABES numeracy team as a curriculum developer and facilitator. At SABES\, she worked alongside her mentor Donna Curry to develop the Curriculum for Accelerated Math (CAM) and was the lead developer of Curriculum for Adults Learning Math (CALM). In 2021\, Heidi succeeded Donna as the Director of the Adult Numeracy Center at TERC\, where she manages the SABES Mathematics and Adult Numeracy Curriculum & Instruction PD Team\, oversees updates\, research\, and teacher support for the EMPower math series\, and continues to facilitate professional development such as the Adults Reaching Algebra Readiness (AR)2 institutes. \nMore information about the day forthcoming! \n  \n  \nNOTE! We’re eager to hear more about your classroom and program. \n[Note: CEUs not available for these informal\, drop-in events] \nKristine Kelly is the Language & Literacy Coordinator for the Minnesota Adult Education system\, where she leads statewide professional development\, coaching\, and support focused on evidence-based adult literacy instruction and standards-based teaching practices. With 30 years of teaching experience in alternative\, adult and higher education\, she has extensive expertise in adult reading and writing instruction\, standards implementation\, high school equivalency\, and postsecondary preparation. As an educational consultant and national presenter\, Kristine frequently provides workshops\, conference sessions\, literacy coaching\, and instructional support for adult education programs and state systems. She is working very slowly on her doctoral dissertation about adult writing instruction and will finish…eventually.  \nKristine is always interested to learn about innovative language and literacy instructional practices that are happening in adult education classrooms across Minnesota!  \nFun fact: Kristine has been volunteering as the Book & Resource Editor for ProLiteracy’s Adult Literacy Education Research Journal since October.

After consulting with ATLAS for several years\, Lindsey joined the ATLAS staff as Numeracy & Program Support Coordinator in 2021. An alumna of ATLAS’s 2013 MNI (Minnesota Numeracy Initiative) cohort\, she has since provided leadership for ATLAS in various contexts. She coordinates professional development activities around effective math and numeracy instruction to adults\, including coordination of the annual Math Institute and leading the statewide Be/CALM Initiative; content standards implementation; a statewide mentorship experience for new staff members; and supporting program administrators. \nFun fact: Lindsey is currently pursuing a Masters of Management and Leadership (MML) at Hamline University.

DESCRIPTION:Registration Deadline: WED. 9/9/26 \nVenue: Online (see details below) \n\nPresenters: Carly Voshell (ATLAS)\, Sonji Davis (Office of New Americans) and additional panelists  \nThe Recredentialing Pathways (RCP) assists internationally trained professionals reconnect with careers in Minnesota by recognizing the education and experience they earned outside the United States. Since launching in December 2025\, the pilot has supported eligible participants in pursuing credit for prior learning toward college credentials and\, in some cases\, comprehensive workforce credentials. \nParticipants must be age 18 or older\, income eligible\, and interested in careers in health care\, engineering\, education\, or information technology. We will discuss the three key components of reading fluency and look at a variety of activities tutors and teachers can try. Carly spent her first 14 years in ABE teaching at Ramsey County Correctional Facility developing experience with reading\, math\, GED\, and career pathways instruction alongside behavior management\, relationship building\, and trauma-informed care. At Harmony Learning Center\, Carly served as a Workplace and Technology Specialist\, which involved digital literacy instruction\, coordinating online statewide ParaEducator and Microsoft Office Specialist courses\, grant writing and serving on the Ramsey County Workforce Innovation Board. From 2021 to 2026\, Carly was a Regional Transition Coordinator for East Metro. She is most interested in finding innovative\, collaborative solutions to overcome challenges that face adult education learners and staff.  \nFun fact: Carly is a Hamline alum\, so being back on campus is the best of both worlds- reconnecting with familiar places and people while discovering everything that’s changed over the years.

She has been involved with language teaching & learning in various ways since she began teaching English in Russia in 1994. She holds a BA in Russian\, an MA in ESL\, and a PhD in Curriculum & Instruction in the area of Second Languages & Cultures. After her time abroad\, Patsy returned to her homebase in Nebraska and worked as the Refugee Coordinator for the Lincoln Literacy Council. After relocating to Minnesota in 1998\, she taught English and composition at the U of M in the late 90’s\, and she taught adult ESL in the early 2000’s at Lao Family Community Center and Metro North-Brooklyn Center. While she is enamored with all things related to ESL\, her particular wheelhouse is lower levels\, those who with emergent print literacy.  \nFun fact: Patsy just returned from Brno\, Czech Republic\, where she attended the LESLLA Symposium! (www.leslla.org) This year at LESLLA\, Patsy and colleague Janet Issleris (Brown University) offered a workshop on the legacy and learnings from Dr. Heide Wrigley\, a beloved LESLLA colleague who passed away last December. \nFun fact #2 – Patsy was the first President of LESLLA.
