With 30 years of teaching experience in alternative\, adult and higher education\, she has extensive expertise in adult reading and writing instruction\, standards implementation\, high school equivalency\, and postsecondary preparation. As an educational consultant and national presenter\, Kristine frequently provides workshops\, conference sessions\, literacy coaching\, and instructional support for adult education programs and state systems. She is working very slowly on her doctoral dissertation about adult writing instruction and will finish…eventually.  \nKristine is always interested to learn about innovative language and literacy instructional practices that are happening in adult education classrooms across Minnesota!  \nFun fact: Kristine has been volunteering as the Book & Resource Editor for ProLiteracy’s Adult Literacy Education Research Journal since October.

She has been involved with language teaching & learning in various ways since she began teaching English in Russia in 1994. She holds a BA in Russian\, an MA in ESL\, and a PhD in Curriculum & Instruction in the area of Second Languages & Cultures. After her time abroad\, Patsy returned to her homebase in Nebraska and worked as the Refugee Coordinator for the Lincoln Literacy Council. After relocating to Minnesota in 1998\, she taught English and composition at the U of M in the late 90’s\, and she taught adult ESL in the early 2000’s at Lao Family Community Center and Metro North-Brooklyn Center. While she is enamored with all things related to ESL\, her particular wheelhouse is lower levels\, those who with emergent print literacy. \nFun fact: Patsy attended the LESLLA Symposium Brno\, Czechia\, in late August! (www.leslla.org) This year at LESLLA\, Patsy and colleague Janet Issleris (Brown University) offered a workshop on the legacy and learnings from Dr. Heide Wrigley\, a beloved LESLLA colleague who passed away last December. \nFun fact #2 – Patsy was the first President of LESLLA. \n  \nErin Cary holds a Master of Arts in ESL from Hamline University\, specializing in Adult Education; a Master of Arts in German Languages and Literatures from The Ohio State University; and Bachelor’s degrees in English and German from the University of Minnesota Morris. She has worked in MN ABE since 2009 as a teacher\, administrator\, and in curriculum writing and professional development. She teaches beginner ELLs for Metro North ABE in Brooklyn Center; instructs graduate courses in the ABE licensure/MAT program at Hamline; and co-develops CILIA-T\, an integrated civics/academic English/digital skills curriculum for adult learners. She is a co-founder of the teacher/learner self-advocacy movement #IamABE\, which supports equity work\, professional issues\, and activism in MN. \nFun fact: Erin is brand new to ATLAS\, but a huge PD aficionado\, and also currently teaching adult ELLs in Brooklyn Center\, as well as graduate courses in Hamline’s MAT/ABE licensure program. She’s happy to chat about any of these topics!

An alumna of ATLAS’s 2013 MNI (Minnesota Numeracy Initiative) cohort\, she has since provided leadership for ATLAS in various contexts. She coordinates professional development activities around effective math and numeracy instruction to adults\, including coordination of the annual Math Institute and leading the statewide Be/CALM Initiative; content standards implementation; a statewide mentorship experience for new staff members; and supporting program administrators. \nFun fact: Lindsey is currently pursuing a Masters of Management and Leadership (MML) at Hamline University.

Applying by the deadline allows us time to identify an appropriate match before the cohort begins. \nMentorship Experience Purpose\nThe Statewide Mentorship Experience is an ATLAS initiative designed to support Minnesota ABE professionals through a facilitated\,  relevant\, meaningful\, and effective mentorship experience between mentors and mentees.  Mentors and mentees may be managers\, coordinators\, support staff or instructors who are looking to intentionally support and learn from peers in MN ABE programs. \nThe Statewide Mentorship Experience takes place over a 12-week period and is facilitated by ATLAS content-leads: Lindsey Pust\, Kristine Kelly and Carly Voshell. \nWhat is a mentor?\nA mentor is NOT someone who has all of the answers! DESCRIPTION:Registration Deadline: THU. 4/15/27 \nVenue: Online (see details below) \n\nPurpose: To strengthen partnerships between Adult Education and two-year colleges so underprepared adult learners experience seamless transitions\, comprehensive support\, and greater success in postsecondary education.  \nThe Affinity Group meetings bring together ABE educators\, college faculty\, deans\, and administrators. Through collaborative discussions\, participants explore effective partnership strategies that support student success and strengthen local connections between Adult Basic Education and MinnState.  \nJoin us for three Affinity Group meetings throughout the year- one each in the fall\, winter\, and spring. To provide flexibility\, each meeting is offered twice: Thursday at 2:00 pm and Friday at 10:00 am. Register for the session that works best for you. DESCRIPTION:Join the ATLAS Lounge for Ask ATLAS Office Hours.  \n\n \nPasscode to join the meeting: lounge2026 \nWelcome to a new endeavor for ATLAS – open office hours! Join the Zoom on Friday\, May 21\, between 9:30 and 10:30 am. This office hour is dedicated to those who are users of CALM (Curriculum for Adults Learning Math)\, and Lindsey will be sipping coffee\, awaiting a conversation with you! Come to informally connect\, collaborate and create solutions with Lindsey and other colleagues who are implementing CALM with their students. (Learn more about Lindsey Pust and her experience below.) \nWhat is Ask ATLAS in the ATLAS Lounge?\nASK ATLAS is an “office hour\,” simply time for an informal\, drop-in conversation with an ATLAS staff member. Each of us at ATLAS holds interests and expertise in different areas\, and we are eager to talk about teaching and learning with you. Come to connect with others doing similar work and chat with ATLAS folks! Bring your questions\, new resources\, & frustrations. We’re eager to hear more about your classroom and program. \n[Note: CEUs not available for these informal\, drop-in events] \nLindsey Pust entered into the world of adult education through an AmeriCorps VISTA position\, and then worked 10 years as a pre-GED/GED instructor. After consulting with ATLAS for several years\, Lindsey joined the ATLAS staff as Numeracy & Program Support Coordinator in 2021. An alumna of ATLAS’s 2013 MNI (Minnesota Numeracy Initiative) cohort\, she has since provided leadership for ATLAS in various contexts. She coordinates professional development activities around effective math and numeracy instruction to adults\, including coordination of the annual Math Institute and leading the statewide Be/CALM Initiative; content standards implementation; a statewide mentorship experience for new staff members; and supporting program administrators. \nFun fact: Lindsey is currently pursuing a Masters of Management and Leadership (MML) at Hamline University.
