Mentor Application FY27
Mentors participating in the Mentorship Experience will receive 17 CEUs and a $250 stipend through ATLAS (if eligible) in recognition of their time and expertise. NOTE: Those with an Administrative license from PELSB can receive Administrative CEUs by request.
Mentor Responsibilities
A mentor will be responsible for the following:
- Complete an “Introduction to Mentoring” module on Canvas (approximately 2 hours, self-paced) prior to kickoff orientation
- Attend half-day, virtual kickoff orientation
- Attend virtual 1-2 hour check-in with the ATLAS team and other mentors midway through the cohort
- Assist mentee in developing PD SMART goal(s) for the year
- Check in with mentee 4-6 times in the span of 12 weeks (virtual or in-person, approximately 45 min – 1 hour each time)
- Be available to answer questions and/or problem-solve as situations arise
- Recommend resources, professional development opportunities and further contacts to mentee
- Communicate with the ATLAS team about any questions or concerns throughout the Mentorship Experience
- Be an active member of the cohort online community on Canvas during the 12 weeks of the Mentorship Experience
- Complete final evaluation of the mentorship experience at the completion of the 12-week period
Qualifications – Required
- Currently employed/contracted with a Minnesota ABE program (any paid staff in an ABE program is welcome, including teachers, office staff, managers, volunteer coordinators, etc.)
- Commitment and ability to support the growth and development of colleagues
- Commitment to self-reflection and ongoing professional development and growth
- Interpersonal skills, including communication and relationship building
- Ability to provide thoughtful, balanced and constructive feedback to colleagues
Additional, example responsibilities* may include (depending on mentee’s goals):
Instructor:

- Invite mentee to observe class for evidenced-based instructional practices (specific focus decided upon by mentor/mentee)
- Facilitate pre- and post-observation meetings
- Demonstrate how to research curricular resources
- Identify opportunities and supports for advocacy and referral needs
- Explore available tools for future areas of growth
Support Staff:

- Demonstrate or observe mentee conducting
- Assessment
- Intake
- Orientation
- Lead leadership exercises to prepare for important and/or difficult conversations and circumstances (e.g. through discussion or role-play)
- Demonstrate or observe mentee conducting
Administrator:

- Share budgeting, staff management, meeting facilitation, etc. resources as applicable and appropriate
- Lead leadership exercises to prepare for important and/or difficult conversations and circumstances (e.g. through discussion or role-play)
- Demonstrate how to collect/use information gathered from staff and partners
*NOTE: These additional responsibilities may take place during your 4-6 check-ins with your mentee.
