America in Class
America in Class offers a number of Common Core standards-aligned history and literature lessons. The lessons emphasize close reading strategies and are developed around a framing question, an essential understanding, and a single primary document or a manageable number of source materials. Students are provided with background information on the topic and a set of questions about the text.
For teachers, example answers, optional follow-up assessments, and other teaching suggestions are noted for each lesson. Lessons are categorized by date (1491-Present) and topics include major events, movements, and themes from specific time periods in American history. In addition to the lessons, the website houses a large collection of primary and secondary sources that are thematically organized and include discussion questions. While adaptable, most website materials are more appropriate for GED and Adult Diploma students.
