Teaching Skills That Matter – Critical Thinking
The Teaching Skills That Matter initiative, funded by OCTAE, provides high-quality teaching materials and instructional videos to help advance the field of Adult Education – including the ACES skill of Critical Thinking. The lessons in the project toolkit highlight 9 skills that are essential for success in work and community life. The 9 skills are:
- Adaptability and Willingness to Learn
- Communication
- Critical Thinking
- Interpersonal Skills
- Navigating Systems
- Problem-Solving
- Processing and Analyzing Information
- Respecting Differences and Diversity
- Self-Awareness
The lessons are also designed to build knowledge in 5 key content areas:
The toolkit is divided into these five sections, with five detailed, ready-to-use lessons in each. Additionally, the toolkit and supporting materials introduce teachers to three highly effective instructional approaches: problem-based learning, project-based learning, and integrated and contextualized instruction. The toolkit lessons can be used with both native and non-native English speakers, and they were designed by national experts in each content area.
