Sight Words
Helpful for alphabetics instruction, this website was designed for children reading at early elementary levels (and their teachers or parents). However, for a teacher serving beginning-level adult readers, it provides a FREE source of sight word flashcards, games, lessons, and activities. All are focused on the Dolch Sight and Fry Instant lists; two collections of words that all beginning readers (at GE K-3) should recognize without sounding out letter by letter.
Reading research supports teaching sight (or high-frequency) words with phonics to increase fluency of short and long texts – from phrases to sentences to paragraphs to passages.
