Volunteer Training Options Offered by Literacy Minnesota –Test Your Knowledge!
Meghan Boyle, Tutor Training CoordinatorHow well do you know the volunteer training offerings from Literacy Minnesota? Read on to test your knowledge!
How many Core Training Modules does Literacy Minnesota offer?
Four! They are the following:
- Core Training Module 1: Overview of Minnesota Adult Education and ABE Accountability
- Core Training Module 2: Understanding Adult Learners
- Core Training Module 3: Instructional Best Practices: Working with Learners
- Core Training Module 4: Instructional Best Practices: Working with Materials
Core Training Module series are offered as live webinars about ten times a year. They can be taken in any order, and Core Training Module 2 is required of all volunteers in Minnesota. Visit the events calendar to see upcoming dates. Core modules are also available as recordings.
What topics do Literacy Minnesota’s targeted (in-service) trainings cover?
We offer several targeted trainings on a rotating basis that cover phonics and alphabetics, reading and writing, remote instruction and more. Visit the Volunteer Foundations Training page on our website and scroll down to Targeted Training Module Descriptions to read about regularly offered trainings under Literacy Level English, Beginning Level English, Intermediate/Advanced English, GED, Reading & Writing, Remote Instruction and Instructional Approaches.
Does Literacy Minnesota provide equity and cultural awareness training for volunteers?
Yes! We invite outside presenters who are experts on their topics to provide training for volunteers. We aim to offer at least one per month on topics related to disability, race, religion, gender and sexuality and more. To see titles and descriptions, visit the Volunteer Foundations Training page on our website and scroll down to Targeted Training Module Descriptions and then click on Equity and Cultural Awareness. A few of these trainings are offered as recordings as well.
What can your program do if volunteers are having trouble making live webinar dates and times?
Volunteers can view recordings (of select sessions) and complete a reflection, or you can request that Literacy Minnesota do a training specifically for your group. We just request that there be at least ten attendees at your live or in-person training session. Send requests to Training Manager Rob Podlasek at [email protected].
So, how did you do? If this little test brought up more questions for you, don’t hesitate to contact Tutor Training Coordinator, Meghan Boyle at [email protected].
