Online DL Basics Course and Training Requirements

Distance Learning for ABE, a new online course created through the Distance Learning Supplemental Services Project, is now available online at https://literacymn.crhosts.cloud/.

The course was carefully planned and produced for Minnesota ABE teachers, managers, and support staff providing Distance Learning (DL). The course provides foundational information about DL delivery. Included are seven online modules:

  1. Introduction – What is Distance Learning?
  2. Curricula, Platforms, and Records
  3. Recruitment, Screening, and Orientation; Instruction; Assessment
  4. Communication and Data Collection
  5. Basic Components of Successful DL Management
  6. Statewide Resources
  7. Final Course Assignment/Evaluation.

The course is highly recommended for all ABE staff who work with distance learning. As of May 1, 2015, completion is a requirement for all ABE DL teachers, managers, and support staff who have not completed the more intensive DL 101, as set by State staff.

Because participants will complete a different number of modules depending on their role, the Continuing Education Unit (CEU) award also varies. Participants who complete the Support Staff modules and assignments will earn 3 CEUs. Participants who complete the Teacher modules and assignment will earn 4 CEUs. Participants who complete the Manager modules and assignment will earn 5 CEUs.
