It’s Coming… State-Supported Ellii Access Begins August 1!

The Statewide Digital Learning Team is thrilled to announce that ALL Minnesota adult education staff and learners will have access to the Ellii platform at no additional cost as of August 1. Ellii provides an extensive curriculum library for teachers of English as an additional language. Ellii is also an approved, time-on-task distance learning platform. Learners can work on assignments from teachers in their Ellii Classroom and choose their own courses and lessons in Ellii Solo. We are very grateful to the Ellii team for supporting this pilot of Ellii as a state-supported platform in 2025-26.

A few of our favorite Ellii features include:

  • The ability to use most materials as paper-based (printable PDF) and digital tasks
  • New, timely content added almost daily, with lessons based on current events, a What to Teach This Week newsletter during the school year, monthly What’s New? collections, and an easy-to-use Discover page
  • Beginning English literacy content designed for adults, including Phonics Stories, Word Bank Readers, Everyday Dialogues, and extensive grammar lessons
  • Career and workplace content, including English for various healthcare careers, paraeducators, and commercial drivers
  • Interactive Polls and Dilemmas, which are similar to Mentimeter or Kahoot activities and provide excellent opportunities for digital skill practice

How do I request my staff account?

First of all, if you or your employer already pays for an Ellii subscription, you’ll want to review this transition information. Your email address can only be associated with one Ellii plan at a time, so you will have to conclude or pause your current subscription before joining the state-supported plan.

When you’re ready to request your state-supported account, you will need to complete the required training and submit the training evaluation.

  • The training is on-demand and self-paced (fully asynchronous). It consists of viewing a Google Slide deck, taking two short quizzes, and submitting the evaluation.
  • The slide deck will open in Presentation mode. To advance the slides, hover your cursor in the lower left corner to reveal the toolbar, then click the forward arrow. You can also use the arrow keys or Enter/return and Backspace/delete on your keyboard.
  • If you prefer to view the slides in Edit mode, simply click the 3 vertical dots on the toolbar, then More, then Open in editor. The More menu will also allow you to download the slides as a PDF or PowerPoint file.
  • If the Google Slides are not accessible to you, a PDF file is available on the Ellii page of the Distance Learning website.
  • There is also a 15-minute podcast summary of the training. The podcast is optional and AI-generated, but you may enjoy it as a way to preview or review the content.

After you complete the training and submit the evaluation, a DL Team member will send you a CEU certificate and an invitation to join our statewide Ellii plan. The invitation will come from [email protected]. You will need to open the email and join the Literacy Minnesota organization account. This 90-second video shows the process. Please be aware that even if you complete the training before August 1, we won’t be able to send your invitation until our subscription officially begins on August 1.

I have more questions!

Great! The DL Team will host two Q&A sessions on July 30 and 31.

There will be two sessions about Ellii at the 2025 Summer Institute in Waite Park:

  • Trending Content to Spark Meaningful Conversation – presented by Lei Kayanuma, Director of Accounts at Ellii – Concurrent Session 8
  • Meet Ellii, the Newest State-Supported DL Platform – presented by Elizabeth Bennett and Katey Miller, Statewide Digital Learning Team – Concurrent Session 9

We can’t wait to see you and support you throughout this Ellii pilot year!
