GED Testing Accommodations
Do you suspect that your student has a specific learning disorder, such as dyslexia (reading) or dyscalculia (math)?
Is your student in a position to take the GED?
If you answered yes, your student may qualify for GED Testing Accommodations.
The GED Testing Service provides reasonable and appropriate accommodations to individuals with documented disabilities who qualify and demonstrate a need for accommodations. Test accommodations may include extra testing time, breaks and testing in a private room. Listed below are the five different disability categories.
- Learning and Other Cognitive Disorders (LD)
- Intellectual Disabilities
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Psychological and Psychiatric Disorders
- Physical Disabilities and Chronic Health Conditions
Testing Reimbursement for GED Accommodations
Formal testing is required to request accommodations in the category of Learning and Other Cognitive Disorders (also called specific learning disorder) and Intellectual Disabilities. The Minnesota Department of Education – Adult Basic Education has appropriated funds to pay for formal testing for students that are ready to take the GED.
ABE programs can apply for reimbursement of testing for a specific student on PANDA’s website. If approved, PANDA will reimburse ABE programs up to $1,000 per individual (funds are limited and on a first-come first-served basis).
Access the application for reimbursement of funds on the PANDA disabilities website >>
A physician or mental health professional can often provide the required documentation to apply for the other GED testing accommodation categories.
