IET Impact in Minnesota
We kicked things off with a warm welcome from Minnesota State Director Brad Hasskamp, who shared powerful statistics on the impact of Integrated Education and Training (IET). In FY25, 1,873 Minnesota Adult Education learners participated in an IET—a 22% increase from FY24. Of those learners, 899 earned a credential, representing a 38% increase over the previous year (Source: SiD).
While these numbers are encouraging, the reality of running IET programs is that the work also comes with many challenges. By openly sharing obstacles and highlighting creative solutions, we can strengthen the field together. Our opening session modeled this by featuring two short, inspiring videos from Mankato ABE and Mounds View ABE.
Quality Indicators
Next, trainer Heather Turngren led the Introduction to IET and Quality Indicators session. She guided participants through the 24 Quality Indicators, developed by LINCs in 2023, which spotlight opportunities for improvement in program design, collaboration and industry engagement, curriculum and instruction, student experience and progress, and program management/support. Whether you’re new to IET or a seasoned practitioner, these indicators are sure to spark new insights and ideas for program growth.
Single Set of Learning Objectives (SSLO)
The following session, Single Set of Learning Objectives (SSLO) Round Up, which I facilitated, explored how to “round up” members of your IET team and showcased a collection of SSLOs across different career fields. Programs applying for approval from the Minnesota Department of Education must include 4–6 SSLOs in their IET Application that integrate adult basic literacy, workforce preparation, and occupational skills and knowledge. While that may sound like a lot to fit into each objective, the session provided practical strategies to make the process more manageable—delivered with a country-western twist.
Next Steps: IET Coaching
We closed the afternoon by exploring ATLAS’s IET Coaching as the next step in professional development for IELCE grantees and others interested in IET training. In this customized model, teams of two or more educators from the same program, consortium, or region are paired with a coach to work on individualized IET goals. This year, coaching priorities will be shaped by the IET Quality Indicators.
