TABE 11&12 – New Maximum Testing Times and More!
Marty Olsen, CoordinatorHave you heard that DRC (Data Recognition Corporation) recently announced a reduction in the allowable time for students to complete each TABE® 11&12 subtest? These new, shorter testing times should be shared with all test administrators.
According to DRC, student test-takers weren’t using the full amount of allowable time, so they submitted a request to the U.S. Department of Education to reduce the maximum allowable time that students could have to complete each subtest of TABE 11&12.

Each level of the Math test has decreased by a total of 10 minutes. The Reading tests have decreased by 10 minutes per part, for a total of 20 minutes per level. And the Language test has decreased by 5 minutes per level.
If you administer TABE as an online test, the new times have been in place since August 29. For those who administer the paper test, but are using the local scanning tool, and therefore have access to the TABE Portal, the newly update TABE Paper and Pencil Test Directions are posted and accessible in the TABE Portal.
GED Age Waiver
When students are applying for an age waiver for the GED test, one option is to take the TABE 11&12. The learner must take Form A and score at least 617 on both the reading and the math subtests to qualify.
Webinar Series
DRC provides a series of webinars that present TABE 11&12 best practices. The series is designed to share ideas learned from other programs that have implemented TABE 11&12. All of the webinars were recorded, so they can be viewed at tabetest.com. (Click on “Resources” > “TABE 11&12” > “TABE Webinar Series”) At the bottom of the list of recorded webinars, you can sign up to receive notifications of upcoming webinars.
