The Latest Updates on Equity PD & Resources on the ATLAS Website!

It’s been a minute since we gave a general update on the equity professional development and resources that are on the ATLAS website, so here’s some more info on what’s there and how to find it!

1) Cultural Competency Library

Have you checked out the Cultural Competency Resources library recently? We have 5 main categories of resources on there: Antiracism, Disabilities, LGBTQ+, Trauma Informed Practices, and Videos: Moving Equity Forward. Click on each category for more resources and additional subcategories.

2) Moving Equity Forward in Adult Education Video Series

As listed above, one of the main categories in the Cultural Competency Resources library is the Moving Equity Forward in Adult Ed video series – a newer multimedia PD opportunity for practitioners.

Each video and accompanying discussion guide packages an important concept that works toward justice in a format that is easily accessible for educators. Topics include learners’ funds of knowledge, being a warm demander, using diverse teaching materials, and more. Each video can be watched as a stand-alone topic, so you do not have to watch them in any particular order if you want to jump around topics that pique your interest. Though of course we do suggest watching them all! 🙂

If you would like to learn about the video series more in depth, check out this article.

3) Antiracist Praxis Study Circle Facilitator Guide

You might remember that over the last couple of years, ATLAS has hosted a number of Antiracist Praxis Study Circles. We don’t have another one scheduled in the event calendar as of now, but we hope to offer it next school year and do want to make sure people are aware that you can access the Facilitator Guide as a Canvas Course. All of the information you need to run your own study circle with your colleagues is provided. We are trying to make this important work as accessible to educators as we possibly can. Check out the Antiracist Praxis Study Circle webpage for more information on how to access the course and facilitator guide.

4) Teaching for Justice Lessons

At the Statewide Virtual Conference in April we announced a new ongoing project called the Teaching for Justice Lesson Plans. These lessons have been created by some of our awesome colleagues around the state in response to many policy changes that are greatly affecting Adult Education Learners. Topics range from Disability Rights and What is an Executive Order? to What’s going on with the National Parks? and Know Your Rights with ICE. Check them out, and let us know if you have ideas for additional topics!

A big thank you to everyone around the state who is staying committed to equity for our adult learners! It makes a big difference in students’ lives as they face barriers in reaching their learning goals. Stay tuned for more resources.
