Making Good Progress: Minnesota State-ABE Corequisite Partnerships

Throughout the past five years, adult education instructors and administrators have closely worked with Minnesota State faculty and staff members to explore and implement campus partnerships to help college enrolled students that are academically underprepared for the rigors of college coursework to experience success pursuing their program of study.

The Minnesota State/ABE Corequisite Affinity Group of nearly 125 members meets virtually three times each academic year to share partnership opportunities and the progress being made within the Minnesota State System to transition from prerequisite developmental education course offerings to corequisite credit-bearing course offerings.

The winter session Affinity Group meetings occurred on January 15 and 16, 2026. Nearly 40 attendees received status updates from Minnesota State faculty who serve on various teams that are charged with providing research and recommendations to Minnesota State administration regarding corequisite effective practices for systemwide consideration and implementation.

Affinity Group attendees heard presentations and provided feedback on the following topics:

  • Steering Committee work
  • Placement sub-committee work
  • Technical College Courses sub-committee progress
  • Wrap-around Services sub-committee progress
  • Minnesota State faculty and Adult Education instructor Professional Development Grant Proposal features

The spring Affinity Group meetings will take place on April 9 (2:00-3:15pm) or April 10 (10:00-11:15am).  Adult Education practitioners are invited to attend; note that the  content is the same for both meetings, so choose the one that works best for you.
