CEUs Awarded for Classroom Video Observations
Great teachers are always looking for ways to become even better teachers. One of the best professional development tools that teachers have available to them is observing other teachers. Observing other teachers in action has multiple benefits: it improves teachers’ self-awareness of their own skills, provides rich resources for activities and teaching techniques, and offers new perspectives and real-life examples of classroom instruction.
However, for many teachers, finding the time to observe colleagues comes with a number of challenges. On-site logistics, full schedules and busy lives can be barriers that prevent teachers from accessing the benefits of observations.
With this in mind, the Minnesota Literacy Council has developed the Classroom Activities for Adult ESL Learners video series on the MN ABE Professional Development YouTube channel, which features professional teachers leading adult ESL classes through common classroom activities. The videos include both volunteer-led and teacher-led classrooms at a variety of levels.
Teachers are able to watch these videos at a convenient time and location in order to develop their classroom skills and become more comfortable introducing new activities to their learners. In addition, teachers who are looking for opportunities to earn professional development CEUs can complete the Classroom Video Observation Form (also available on the MN Literacy Council website) while watching a video and submit it to Andrea Echelberger ([email protected]) at the MN Literacy Council. One CEU will be awarded for each Classroom Video Observation Form that is completed in full.
