New! Foundations of Remote Instruction Certificate for Volunteers

Are you looking for ways to get your volunteers trained to continue to deliver support and instruction to adult learners? Whether it’s tutoring on-on-one over WhatsApp, guiding a breakout room discussion during a Zoom class, or leading a class on Google Meet, volunteers are helping learners develop their academic skills and stay connected with their learning community, and Literacy Minnesota can help ensure that they are confidently prepared for the work. To support programs, Literacy Minnesota has developed a volunteer certification option for to help coordinators and supporting teachers track volunteer virtual training progress.

The Foundations of Remote Instruction Certificate enables volunteers to demonstrate that they’ve had six hours of training on topics related to remote tutoring and teaching. To be awarded this certificate, volunteers must attend Remote Tutoring 101, plus three additional webinar trainings that are marked as Remote Instruction. Once a volunteer has completed the required four trainings, a PDF of their Foundations of Remote Instruction Certificate will be sent to their email. The certificate will list the four webinar trainings that the volunteer attended (Remote Tutoring 101 + three other webinars).

Programs can allow volunteers to select the three additional webinar trainings to attend, or require that volunteers attend a specific combination of webinars. Here are some examples of which webinars coordinators could require for volunteers working in different roles:
