The Minnesota Literacy Council Has Become Literacy Minnesota

Our organization began in a church basement in 1972 when a group of women realized if one person taught someone to read, and that person taught someone to read, they could create a movement. Today, we have grown to include six learning centers; thousands of tutors trained per year; thousands of curriculum downloads per month; AmeriCorps VISTA members working on literacy initiatives across the state; and a digital literacy learning platform, Northstar, utilized in all 50 states and several countries.

Now, as in the past, our mission is to share the power of learning through education, community building and advocacy. We hope our updated name, brand and web presence reflect the ways our work in the literacy field has shifted and multiplied. These changes build on existing strengths and lay the groundwork for more cohesion and momentum around the literacy cause.

You can still find curriculum, videos, instructional kits and other literacy resources on our new website at literacymn.org/educator-resources. Our new Educator Resources Library makes all of our curriculum and teaching tools accessible from one convenient, searchable location.

We’d love to hear what you think. Please visit literacymn.org/feedback to share your feedback on our new brand and website!

Thank you for joining with us over the years to work toward a world where life-changing learning is within everyone’s reach. I can’t wait to see what else we can accomplish together.
