Course Description:  This is a four-week introductory course on healthcare careers that teaches the occupational and employability skills required for students to take and successfully pass the Minnesota Individual Personal Care Assistance (PCA) and Community First Services and Supports (CFSS) test. Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to practice their English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills as well as digital literacy skills.

Duration:  8 class sessions, 2 ½ hours/session = 20 hours

Curriculum Materials:

  • Course outline with hyperlinks to course materials (some are open source and others may need to request access), course syllabus, learning management system tutorial video for students, icebreaker activities, Google Slides presentations of materials including review material, pertinent readings and vocabulary, Google Form quizzes including Final Practice test, and exit tickets

Curriculum Pluses:  The curriculum is contained in a course outline with hyperlinks to course materials. Curriculum provides a mix of materials including presentations and videos that prepare students for employment as a Personal Care Attendant.

Curriculum Drawbacks:  Curriculum developer states that more advanced/higher level learners have indicated the curriculum is repetitive. Some of the hyperlinks may request access.
