Prepares Students for: Successful completion of CPR/AED & First Aid certification, continued study in an ACP bridge course to pursue a career in the healthcare field.

Course Description: Introduces students to the study of the human body, the healthcare career field and providing first aid and CPR in a health emergency while integrating English, literacy and technology skills. A licensed CPR trainer will co-teach with an ESL teacher to prepare students to become certified in American Health Association (AHA) CPR, AED & First Aid. This course is designed to provide foundational knowledge and certification that can be applied to the further study of human biology to prepare for a career in healthcare.
Duration: One semester, meeting 2 days a week for 2 hours a day over 16 weeks, 4 hours a week, for approximately 64 hours of instruction
Curriculum Materials: This course includes a student syllabus, two student workbooks, unit plans with content and language objectives, assessment plans, suggestions for special activities and guest speakers. Utilizes The Human Body: Wonders of Science student and teacher editions, and AHA’s Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Student Workbook.
Curriculum Pluses: Includes detailed scope and sequence as road map for new instructor, plus an extensive list of source materials. A student syllabus and a variety of customized learning tools support student learning. Teacher notes provide helpful framework and tips for teaching the course.
