Course Description: This class prepares people for OSHA 10 Training. Explore careers in janitorial, warehouse, hospital. Learners will:
- Build vocabulary and skills related to building maintenance, customer service, workplace health and safety
- Develop Speaking, Listening, and Reading skills for entry level and advanced jobs in building maintenance and customer service
- Earn OSHA 10 Certificate for Industrial Safety
- Have access to a Counselor who will help with applying for jobs St. Paul Public Schools, or other companies
Duration: 12 wks, 4 days/wk, 2hrs/session = 96 instructional hours
Curriculum Materials/Description:
- Included: syllabus, scope and sequence, some teacher-created materials and assessments.
- Needed: CareerSafe Online account, devices for students, realia (such as PPE).

Curriculum Pluses: Aligned to ACES TIF (Transitions Integration Framework), Aligned to CCRS (College & Career Readiness Standards), Organization of materials is easy to follow. Authentic documents and articles retrieved from the osha.gov website are included with activities that allow students to explore the topic while building study skills like scan for the main idea and skim for details. Various other sources of articles and activities include news and job search websites (e.g. Sahan Journal, Indeed).
Curriculum Drawbacks: Not aligned to at least ONE set of MN Adult Education standards (ACES, CCRS or Northstar), Paid subscription/account required, Textbook or purchased materials required. Not aligned to Northstar.
